Bangalore District Overview

An official Census 2011 detail of Bangalore (Bengaluru), a district of Karnataka has been released by Directorate of Census Operations in Karnataka. Enumeration of key persons was also done by census officials in Bangalore District of Karnataka. 

Bangalore District Population 2011

In 2011, Bangalore had population of 9,621,551 of which male and female were 5,022,661 and 4,598,890 respectively. In 2001 census, Bangalore had a population of 6,537,124 of which males were 3,426,599 and remaining 3,110,525 were females. Bangalore District population constituted 15.75 percent of total Maharashtra population. In 2001 census, this figure for Bangalore District was at 12.37 percent of Maharashtra population. 

Bangalore District Population Growth Rate

There was change of 47.18 percent in the population compared to population as per 2001. In the previous census of India 2001, Bangalore District recorded increase of 35.09 percent to its population compared to 1991. 

Bangalore District Density 2011

The initial provisional data released by census India 2011, shows that density of Bangalore district for 2011 is 4,381 people per sq. km. In 2001, Bangalore district density was at 2,985 people per sq. km. Bangalore district administers 2,196 square kilometers of areas. 

Bangalore Literacy Rate 2011

Average literacy rate of Bangalore in 2011 were 87.67 compared to 82.96 of 2001. If things are looked out at gender wise, male and female literacy were 91.01 and 84.01 respectively. For 2001 census, same figures stood at 87.92 and 77.48 in Bangalore District. Total literate in Bangalore District were 7,512,276 of which male and female were 4,078,041 and 3,434,235 respectively. In 2001, Bangalore District had 4,782,565 in its district. 

Bangalore Sex Ratio 2011

With regards to Sex Ratio in Bangalore, it stood at 916 per 1000 male compared to 2001 census figure of 908. The average national sex ratio in India is 940 as per latest reports of Census 2011 Directorate. In 2011 census, child sex ratio is 944 girls per 1000 boys compared to figure of 943 girls per 1000 boys of 2001 census data. 

Bangalore Child Population 2011

In census enumeration, data regarding child under 0-6 age were also collected for all districts including Bangalore. There were total 1,052,837 children under age of 0-6 against 772,540 of 2001 census. Of total 1,052,837 male and female were 541,656 and 511,181 respectively. Child Sex Ratio as per census 2011 was 944 compared to 943 of census 2001. In 2011, Children under 0-6 formed 10.94 percent of Bangalore District compared to 11.82 percent of 2001. There was net change of -0.88 percent in this compared to previous census of India.
